Two people were killed and two others injured in a wreck that blocked off the southbound lanes of Interstate 459 in Jefferson County Tuesday night.

It happened just before 8 p.m. when 63-year-old Jefferson Jones collided head-on with a vehicle driven by 29-year-old Kellie Stephen of Irondale, according to ALEA.

Jones' vehicle then struck a Freightliner commercial street sweeper driven by Lolita Matthews, 55, of Leeds.

Jones and a passenger in his vehicle, 58-year-old Susan Jones, were both fatally injured during the crash and pronounced dead at the scene.

Stephenson and Matthews were both transported to local hospitals for medical treatment.

Troopers with ALEA's Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
