Home » Cranbrook adds three electric vehicles to municipal fleet

The City of Cranbrook has added three electric vehicles (EV) to its fleet in 2023, bringing the city’s total electric vehicle count to four.

In 2021 the city acquired its first EV, a small SUV, which has since been utilized by the Public Works Department. This electric vehicle has been economical and reliable, so the city has chosen to adopt more EVs into the fleet.

Public Works will further utilize one of the new EVs purchased by the city, which is an electric van.

“Thanks to the support of the Columbia Basin Trust, the majority of the costs of the electric van were covered,” said Evan Berry, Energy Conservationist. “The van will replace a gasoline pickup truck and is being used as a service vehicle by our electrician, which is pretty fitting having an electric vehicle for an electrician.”

In addition to the electric van, the city also added two EV compact cars for the Engineering and Development Services Department. One of the EVs will be used by Roads and Infrastructure, while the other will be utilized by Building and Bylaw Services.

The three new EVs are expected to prevent 6.2 tons of annual CO2 emissions and save the city approximately $2,500 in energy costs.
